Composer ~ Singer ~ Songwriter ~ Pianist ~ Sarah Schonert ~ Biography


Sarah Schonert is an engineer in the Peoria, IL area, composing original music in her spare time.

She has been playing piano and singing for over twenty years and has dabbled in multiple instruments and styles over the years.

Sarah picked up the pencil in 2012 and began composing, mainly for piano and voice first, collaborating with friends and other hobbyists around the world on their pieces as well.

After a year of pulling together piano and vocal pieces, she delved into software and a keyboard to better define her sound. “Against Me” is the first of several synthesized pieces, making use of vocoding software and layering. Sarah does all of her own writing, recording, lyrics, singing, mixing, and sound production in her home.

Sarah describes her ideal sound as some wonderfully maddening mesh of singer/songwriter, alternative, and electronic.

Decidedly sticking with synthesizer, pads, sequencers, and loops and her beloved piano, Sarah is calling it “eclectic electronic.”

Sarah’s style has morphed from almost classical-sounding piano to ethereal synthesized strings and washes of sound behind her vocals. She prefers a free-flowing lyrics writing style and often tucks in a bit of humor or nods to her science / math background.

She currently rolls multiple pieces at a time, working both on her own and with various collaborators around the world virtually.
